Project Description
Sperm Donation
Sperm Donation in Cyprus
Acceptance of donor sperm is recommended in cases where inability to acquire a child is due to male infertility and provided that specific sperm collection techniques (MESA, TESA, TESE) have been implemented.
In order to become a donor, one needs to be an adult under the age of 30 with proven fertility and a normal semen analysis. The donor is subject to extensive medical examination and needs to present his complete medical history for the detection of hereditary, genetic or contagious diseases. These tests are repeated every 6 months to confirm that the sperm is completely healthy and ready to use.
Cryopreservation of the specimen is performed in special storage banks where all operating rules are in compliance with the law in force. In addition, every couple accepting donor sperm is given an accompanying document specifying the tests that have been carried out, the dates of cryopreservation, the basic characteristics of the donor and the sperm parameters.
Under no circumstances will the couple know the name of the donor or vice versa, since a barcode is placed on the sample after collection, which can only be identified in the laboratory.
