Project Description

Microinjection – ICSI

The technique of microinjection has helped many couples with significant infertility problems. This technique involves inserting the sperm through a very fine needle into the egg. Once immobilized, the sperm is sucked into the needle which enters the inside of the egg, piercing both the zone and the membrane that protects the egg. When this happens, the sperm is deposited inside the egg and the needle is removed.

After a few hours, the embryologist will know if fertilization has taken place. All procedures are performed under a microscope with the help of microcontrollers. The embryologist examines the sperm and decides whether microinjection will increase the chances of having a child.

It is usually recommended when:

  • The number of the sperm is low;

  • The motility of the sperm is low and their morphology is poor;

  • There is a large number of anti-sperm antibodies in the sample;

  • A previous IVF attempt has been made, and no or few eggs have been fertilized;

  • Sperm come directly from the epididymis or testes after biopsy.
